4 Unexpected Health Benefits of A Clean Home

We have always believed that a clean mind starts with a clean space, and there is so much research to show that there are truly so many other health benefits, both physically and mentally, to having a clean home. We compiled a quick list of 4 of unexpected health benefits that we found and love!

You’ll feel less stressed

Visual clutter actually can lead to mental clutter. A 2010 study in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin revealed that women with messier homes have higher levels of cortisol than those with tidy houses. That means your stress levels can be linked to the state of your home or living space.

You’ll be more productive

Do you sometimes find yourself scanning the room for a distraction, when you have a task you need to get done? Disorganization can sometimes make it easier to spot something you can use to procrastinate. Your mind also finds it easier to get your stuff done when everything is in order. So this shows that your space can directly impact your productivity? Check out this 2011 study on the way visual stimuli competes for your attention. We think we can all benefit a little from this ;).

You’ll sleep better

Make your room a clean oasis where you can start your day off for an even better tomorrow. The National Sleep Foundation conducted a survey that revealed that just making your bed in the morning boosts your chances of getting a good night’s rest by almost 20 percent. a clean space can help you start your mornings, more peacefully with a smoother start to your day. Waking up to a disheveled, confused environment doesn't help anyone start their day off well. Isn’t it easier to drift off to sleep when you don’t have any leftover to-dos nagging at your brain? Plus

You’ll get sick less often

A clean home leaves fewer places for germs and bacteria to hide. Plus, dust and allergens build up in carpeting and bedding over time, contributing to allergies and asthma. We suggest you regularly clean and disinfect door handles and light switches, the bathroom, tables and surfaces, your linens and remote controls, to avoid spreading germs and bacteria throughout the household.

The health benefits of a clean home are obvious. If you want to keep yourself and your family healthy, cleaning on a regular basis is a must, and this doesn’t just mean vacuumming and dusting - think about decluttering your home as well as creating a space that makes you feel calm, at peace and generally happy when you are home.  Treat your home liek an oasis as it does have a direct impact on both your mental and physical health.
